Everything you need to know about our icon converter
Every Windows application, browser tab, and desktop shortcut needs an ICO icon, and most modern design workflows start from a PNG. Converting PNG to ICO normally means a conversion website (upload your art, wait, download) or a command-line tool you have to look up. This tool does the conversion locally in your browser in a couple of seconds - no upload, no account.
It handles the full ICO workflow: pick your source image (PNG, JPG, SVG or any raster format), choose the sizes to embed (16, 32, 48, 64, 128, 256), and download a single multi-resolution .ico file that Windows picks the right frame of automatically. Batch mode converts an entire folder at once, and the preview shows each size so you can verify detail survives at 16 pixels.
16x16 is the taskbar and small toolbar case; 32x32 covers file explorers; 48x48 and 64x64 are desktop and high-DPI contexts; 256x256 covers Windows 10/11 large views. Embedding multiple sizes in one ICO is the professional approach - the OS picks the best frame per context instead of blurring one size.
Drop in a PNG, JPG or SVG - or an entire folder in batch mode. A square canvas with some padding around the artwork works best, because icons are usually centered and some tools crop to the frame.
Tick the sizes you need - 16 (taskbar, small toolbars), 32 (file explorers), 48 and 64 (desktop, high-DPI), 256 (Windows 10/11 large views). Embedding several sizes in one file is the professional approach: the OS picks the best frame per context instead of stretching a single size and blurring it.
Download the multi-size .ico and use it as your app icon, desktop shortcut icon or favicon. The live preview shows every embedded size, so you can check that detail still survives at 16 pixels before you ship the file.
ICO is still the most compatible favicon format - older browsers and some CMSs expect it. Create a 256px master, embed 16/32/48/64/256, and reference the same file at 32px contexts. Modern sites can also serve SVG or PNG favicons, but a multi-size ICO covers every browser without extra requests. Because the conversion runs in your browser, client artwork never touches a server.
Vector input is the best source for an icon set, because the artwork is re-rasterized at each embedded size instead of being scaled down from one bitmap. Detail survives at 16px far better with SVG input, and a single source file produces the whole set - taskbar to large-view - in one batch run.
